What should Gippsland's animal mascot be?

From bin chickens to native mice, Leongatha locals had their say on which critter best represents the region.

The Monitor took to the streets of Leongatha to ask residents a tough question: Which animal is the best symbol of Gippsland?

“Definitely not a cockatoo, because they’re driving me nuts,” one resident said.

Another local picked the New Holland Mouse, saying: “We’ve got two populations in south Gippy. One in Locksport, one in the Prom. They are not doing well, they could definitely use some more funding and awareness.”
