Family-friendly events in Gippsland this July
Keeping the kids entertained in the school holidays and over the weekend is a struggle, here's a list of live music, festivities and good times for young and old.

School holidays are here and it’s always difficult to keep coming up with fresh ideas to keep the young ones entertained, so the Gippsland Monitor has done some investigating and put together a collection of family friendly events happening this July across the region.
There’s a stack of fun things this July, from table tennis tournaments to live shows to Bingo and Bluey art installations.

East Gippsland Winter Festival

A dragon statue fire show.
The fifth annual East Gippsland Winter Festival is set to be an enormous affair. There will be over 100 events held throughout East Gippsland that will feature live music, food, music, art and culture.
When: June 20 - July 20.

Kurnai Culture Expo

There are NAIDOC Week events held across Gippsland.
As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations (July 6 - July 13) Kurnai Elders will be sharing their culture and history with the community. The expo includes cultural maps, learning sessions about the Kurnai seasons and information on native ingredients.
Where: Fountain Room at the West Gippsland Arts Centre.
When: Friday July 11 and Saturday July 12.
Table Tennis Australia National Championships

Table Tennis Australia is coming to Traralgon.
Over 400 table tennis players will descend on Traralgon for Australia’s 2025 National Championships. To truly appreciate the reflexes, spin, pace and sleight of hand, you need to see table tennis up close. Events from Under 11s and up.
When: July 6 - July 13.

Bluey & Bingo Shine a Light on Endangered Animals

This Bluey and Bingo inspired show helps highlight the threat facing endangered species.
This free Bluey and Bingo lantern display event is part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival, Beachcomber Holiday Units have put up glowing handmade lanterns of your favourite Heeler sisters - Bingo and Bluey - with the addition of some endangered Australian species such as the barking owl, giant pink slug, harlequin spider, and the corroboree frog.

Great Alpine Scarecrow Competition

Make scarecrows of all different sizes and dress them up.
This is an event you can do from the comfort of your own backyard! The Great Alpine Art Gallery is running a community scarecrow competition, let the kids showcase their creative talent by constructing and decorating a scarecrow!
Once your masterpiece is ready, snap a photo and submit it to [email protected] between 20th June and 12th July.

Island Whale Festival

There’s plenty to do at this years Island Whale Festival.
The Island Whale Festival is a celebration of the gentle giants that can often be seen off the coast of Phillip Island. Includes whale spotting events; conversations with whale researchers, ecologists and academics on the connection between whales and First Nations communities; and seven films about whales.
When: July 11 - July 13.

Mr. Snotbottom

Mr. Snotbottom has toured all over Australia.
As part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival, Mr. Snotbottom will be performing a gig filled with snot-loaded gags at the Forge Theatre.
Mr. Snotbottom was nominated for Best Children’s Event at Perth Fringe and is the star of the Australian Podcast Awards 2022 Gold medal winning Busy Bodies podcast.

Lakes Lights

A parade of lit up statues over the walk-bridge at Lakes Entrance.
Book your tickets to wander through this giant installation art exhibition in Bairnsdale as part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival. Kids can attend lantern-making workshops, there will be live music as the sun sets and projection art, ethereal soundscapes and roving performers.
When: Saturday, July 12.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Dress up and enjoy the shenanigans at the Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Get the kids dressed up in their favourite Alice in Wonderland costume and head over to Orbost Arts Centre for an arts and crafts day.
When: Wednesday, July 16.

The Mik Maks live in Gippsland

Brothers Al and Joel, Joel's daughter Ava, and their cheeky friend Drums the Panda.
The Mik Maks have over 8.5 million subscribers and fans around the world, come join brothers Al and Joel with Joel's daughter Ava with music that’ll make the kids laugh, dance and sing.

Where The Wild Things Are at Marlo Hotel
Todd Cook & The Rufous Whistlers are performing a special Where The Wild Things Are set at the Marlo Hotel. Dress the children up in fantastical wild things attire and get ready to dance the night away to the acoustics of the band.

Christmas in July on Mount Baw Baw

There’s plenty of snow, fun and games to be had on Mount Baw Baw this July.
Take your kids to a snowy winter wonderland at the top of Mount Baw Baw. At this free event you can watch Santa Clause himself riding through the village on a husky dog sleigh. There’s food and drink available all weekend so don’t miss out on the chance to throw some snowballs and build a snowman.
