This cafe offers modern Australian breakfasts and lunches with a Cambodian twist. Many of the breakfast options are vegetarian or can be made vegetarian.
Stand outs: The eggs benedict comes with poached eggs, baby spinach, basil pesto cream, a potato cake and herb roasted field mushrooms for $23; a potato and veggie pattie burger with rocket, tomato, Gippsland cheddar, salsa verde, sweet potato fries and relish is $27.

Trulli Outdoors

This Italian themed deli and restaurant in South Gippsland specialises in fermented sourdough wood-fired pizzas.
Stand outs: There’s an ortolana pizza with chargrilled seasonal vegetables, semidried tomatoes, Gippsland mushrooms, vannella stracciatella (stringy mozzarella and cream) and mint costs $29. A classic margherita with buffalo mozzarella, basil and Tarago olive oil is $22.

The Maharaja Palace

A vegetarian butter masala from Maharaja Palace.
This Indian restaurant in the heart of Bairnsdale offers a wide range of vegetarian and vegan curries.
Stand outs: The vegetable vindaloo is cooked in spicy ginger-garlic sauce with a touch of vinegar, while the eggplant masala is cooked with onion sauce, herbs and spices. Both $21.50.

Zaab Zaab

Vegetarian tom yum soup and rice at Zaab Zaab.
This spot offers traditional Thai cuisine in Traralgon.
Stand outs: Vegetable Pad Thai costs $23.90 and is served with stir fried thin rice noodles with egg, tofu, bean shoots, julienned carrots topped with garlic, chives and crushed peanuts.

Cafe Chez Joe

Housed in a restored 1900s heritage hotel, Maison Sen's has a cafe and restaurant serving Vietnamese food in Bairnsdale.
Stand outs: There’s an egg noodle soup with mixed vegetable and tofu for $18 or fried salt and pepper eggplant for $23.
