Hunting truffles in Neerim South with Boogie the "cheese monster" pooch

"If you can smell the aroma, that's a good sign it's ready."

Last week, the Monitor was given a tour of Scotch Hill Truffle Farm in Neerim South by owner Ron Geritz.

Geritz explained how he grows black truffles underneath rows of French Oak trees on the property he manages with his partner Michelle Jones.

While strolling through the farm, Geritz demonstrated how he trained one of his truffle hunting dogs, Boogie, to be able to hone in on the pungent underground fungus nugget.
