Here’s a list of 10 hikes that show off the region’s picturesque landscape.

We’ve separated the hikes into three difficulty levels so you can pick one that’s right for you.

  • Easy: No experience required. The track is hardened gravel or compacted surface and may have a gentle hill section or sections and some steps.

  • Moderate: Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience is recommended. Tracks may have short steep sections, a rough surface and steps.

  • Hard: Bushwalking experience and a good level of fitness required. Tracks may be long, rough and very steep. Directional signage may be limited.

Mount Oberon Summit

Climb to the top of Mount Oberon in Wilsons Promontory and take in the incredible views from the southern most part of Australia’s mainland.

Distance: 6.8km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: Two hours.

Tarra Valley Rainforest

Known for its giant mountain ash trees and ancient myrtle beeches, Tarra Bulga National Park is lush with ferns and if you’re lucky you might spot a lyrebird.

Distance: 1.4km.

Difficulty: Easy.

Expected time: 35 minutes.

Toorongo and Amphitheatre Falls Loop

This circular track through Tooronga Falls Reserve gives you a view of both Toorongo and Amphitheatre falls.

Distance: 2.2km.

Difficulty: Easy.

Expected time: One hour.

Great Prom

There are two options here for longer walks of one of Victoria's most loved national parks but if you don’t feel like going on a multiple day hike then just pick a section and walk as far as your heart desires.

Distance: 35.5 to 52.8km.

Difficulty: Hard.

Expected time: Three-four day return.

Cape Conran Nature Trail

The walking trail at Cape Conran.

Cape Conran Nature Trail explores beaches, rock pools, boardwalks and woodlands. Plus there are plenty of lookouts to take in the coast.

Distance: 3.2km (one way).

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: One hour and 20 minutes.

Cape Woolamai

This Cape Woolamai walk gives you panoramic views of the southern most point of Phillip Island.

Distance: 4km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: Two hours.

George Bass Coastal

Stroll along the cliff tops and look out at sweeping views of the Bass Strait. There are plenty of beaches that you can walk down to on the way as well if you feel like a refreshing dip.

Distance: 7km.

Difficulty: Easy.

Expected time: Two hours (one way).

Mushroom Rocks

Walk along a section of the Australian Alps Walking Track in Baw Baw National Park and enter a maze of giant granite rocks covered in thick moss and sometimes mushrooms.

Distance: 3km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: Two hours.

The Entrance Walk

Walk from the footbridge at Lakes Entrance along Ninety Mile Beach. Seals can often be seen laying on the rocks.

Distance: 4.6km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: One hour and 30 minutes.

Ada Tree Rainforest

Located in the Yarra State Forest hikers will pass tree ferns, beeches, gums and the 300 year old Ada Tree.

Distance: 3.2km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Expected time: One hour and 30 minutes.
