The history of Warragul’s abandoned milk factory
The site changed through many hands over the decades but it now sits derelict and rusting.
The Monitor visited Warragul’s old Vermont Milk Factory on Queen Street, which was established in 1923, to make a video about the dairy plant’s history.
Under the management of Petersville, the factory provided the Peters Ice Cream brand's factory in Mulgrave with all the dairy raw material (fresh cream and concentrated skim milk) for 35 years.
Production ceased at the milk factory in the 1990s and over the following decades the site became derelict.
Today, many windows are smashed and the buildings show signs of severe rusting.
