🍑 Where’d all my peaches go?
Plus: Ultimate scenic trip guide.
⏱️ This edition of our newsletter is a six-minute read.
👋 Hello Gippslanders, it’s Jacob here.
It’s just a short newsletter today because we’re getting back into the swing of things after the long weekend.
I spent a couple of nights over the weekend in Melbourne and went to see a few Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows, but apart from that I mostly relaxed and read books.
Unfortunately most of my immediate family and relatives live in Perth, so I didn’t get to partake in an Easter egg hunt.
🍑 Quick peach update. All my peaches have now been consumed by ravenous birds. The individual bags I put over some branches didn’t stop the cockatoos and king parrots from getting to my precious fruit. I’m glad the birds got to enjoy them - I just wish they left some for me.

👀 Looking ahead. In this newsletter we’re talking about:
🏖️ The best day trips in Gippsland;
⛏️ Preparing Latrobe Valley’s coal workers for new careers, and;
🎉 What’s on in Gippsland this April.
📧 Can you help me out? I’m looking to write a story next week on how flooding has impacted properties and property prices in Wellington Shire.
If you are someone - or you know someone - who lives on flood prone land in Wellington Shire and is happy to chat to me, then please reach out at [email protected].

🚀 Alright, let’s jump into the Monitor’s latest yarns!

Gippsland is home to many picturesque spots, where you can spend a day relaxing in the environment, boutique shopping, dining and checking out native wildlife. With so much to see the Monitor has compiled a list of places to check out when you’ve got a day free.

LOOKING NATIONALLY 👀
Why is Australia building new power lines? Can’t we just use the ones we already have?
These are questions my colleague Archie Milligan from the National Account wanted to answer in a video last week.
Archie spoke with a researcher from the Grattan Institute about why we need to install more power lines, and a beef farmer from south western Victoria about whether power lines impacted his farming.
Check out the video below.

🎥 Watch: Latrobe Valley workers shift to clean energy
Last week, I interviewed an Energy Australia employee about how the company is preparing the over 450 workers at their Yallourn coal-fired power station to move into other industries once the plant shuts down in 2028.
Yesterday, I made a video summarising that story. Take a look at it below.

Thanks for catching up with us this week at the Monitor. I hope you enjoyed this midweek issue of our newsletter.
A reminder, if you are someone - or you know someone - who has property or lives on flood prone land in Wellington Shire and is happy to talk to me about their experience with floods, then please reach out at [email protected].
I’ll be back in your inbox on Friday with more local stories, informative videos and Gippsland event guides.
Cheers,
Jacob & the Gippsland Monitor team
