What's on in Gippsland this June?

From winter festivals and stand-up comedy to true crime events and fitness challenges, here’s the Monitor’s list of events this month.

There’s still plenty of shows, exhibitions and festivals across the region.

The English comedian is touring Australia at the moment with his new stand-up special Cranium of Curiosities.

Is Shakespeare in this movie?

Live performance of ‘Is Shakespeare in this movie?’

Produced by Melbourne-based theatre company Alternative Facts, this play is about four English teachers reflecting on their professional journeys and emotional struggles.

Ticket price: $41 for adults.

When: Thursday June 4.

Where: The Wedge Theatre, 100 Foster Street, Sale.

Historic Gippsland Steam Train Rides

A steam train rolls through Victoria.

Take a ride on a vintage train through the scenic landscape around Sale. Two steam locomotives will make one-hour return shuttle journeys from Sale in early June. 

Ticket price: $69.

When: Friday June 5 - Monday June 8.

Where: Pettit Drive, Sale.

Walhalla train rides

A Walhalla train crossing the Thomson railway bridge.

The Walhalla Goldfields Railway has trains trips through the picturesque Baw Baw Shire town every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Ticket price: Adult return tickets are $40.

When: Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Loch Village Food and Wine Festival

Cakes and biscuits on sale at the Loch Village Food and Wine Festival.

Meet some of the producers behind South Gippsland’s wineries, breweries, produce and eateries while listening to live music in the picturesque town of Loch.

Ticket price: $21.

When: Sunday June 7.

Where: Loch Railway Reserve, Loch.

The Butterfly Effect

Competitors at the Butterfly Effect.

Claiming to be the world’s largest all-female functional fitness event series, the Butterfly Effect will see teams of three women compete across a series of physical challenges like weightlifting, rope climbing and cycling.

Ticket price: $11.90.

When: Sunday June 14.

Where: 3 Campbells Drive, Bairnsdale.

The Ultimate Truffle Hunt

Truffles from Scotch Hill Truffle Farm.

Located on Scotch Hill Truffle Farm on the slopes of Mount Baw Baw, visitors are invited to go truffle hunting on the property before settling down by the fire for a truffle themed meal.

Ticket price: $143.41.

East Gippsland Winter Festival

Bruthen Medieval Winter Fire Festival.

This month-long festival of light at Lakes Entrance celebrates local food, music and visual art. Take a look at the festival's schedule because there’s plenty to see and do over June and July.

When: Friday June 19 - Sunday July 19.

Where: 470 Esplanade, Lakes Entrance.

Crime Night

Former Victoria Police homicide detective Charlie Bezzina.

Former homicide detective Charlie Bezzina takes you through his 38-year career with Victoria Police, including his 17 years in the homicide squad.

Exhibitions at East Gippsland Art Gallery

Work by Velta Fellows.

East Gippsland Art Gallery is launching three new exhibitions by local artists on May 1. 

The exhibition are: Let Me Keep by Elisabeth Scott, Bodies of Water and Liminal Spaces by Hilary Peterson and Where is Foster? by Velta Fellows.

Entry to the art gallery is free.
